I need to have my teeth pulled and dentures made. I gave a total of 25 teeth and all need to be removed. I am currently taking alendronate on a weekly basis.
I had a consult at Affordable Dentures and was told I needed a medical release from the doctor who prescribed the alendronate before they would schedule extractions. Dr. Rupp's office provided the following information regarding use of Fosamax/Alendronate and dental work.
Recommended ideal practice is to be off of Fosamax/alendronate for 6 months prior to dental work.
But, if the patient is not having any signs of jaw problems that dental work(extractions) could be done without stopping the medication.
Dr. Rupp's office provided clearance for extractions.
However, the dentists at Affordable Dentures now do not want to proceed. They said that if I only needed a few teeth pulled (2 or 3), that they would proceed, but they do not feel comfortable pulling 25, and that I needed to find someone else to do the extractions.
I would like to know if your offices can/will do the extractions while a patient is on Fosamax, or if you also require a patient to stop medication for a specified time period first.
I would also like an estimate for having this work done.
